Nurse of New York (center) took home the crown and the title of Miss
Voluptuous Beauty 2008 at this year’s pageant, held Feb. 10 in Boston.
Presented by the nonprofit organization Uniquely Plus Size, the Miss
Voluptuous Beauty Pageant was created specifically for the plus-size
community and intended to help women recognize their internal and
external beauty. More than $1,500 in cash and prizes were given away at
the pageant. Latoya Evans, also of New York, was first runner-up, and

young ladies recently participated in the Brockton Branch NAACP
Cotillion Ball at the Ridder Country Club in East Bridgewater. The
NAACP awarded Candace Marshall, a senior at Bridgewater-Raynham High
School, a $1,000 scholarship, and Serita Gilbert-Lloyd, a junior at
Southeastern Regional Technical-Vocational High School, a $500
