The Boston School Committee and school superintendent Dr. Carol R. Johnson last month honored members of the Boston Police Department (BPD) and the Boston Public Schools (BPS) Safety Services in recognition of their bravery in the line of duty. In this July 5, 2007 photo, U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, D-Ohio, speaks at a forum on renewing American manufacturing in Cleveland. Tubbs Jones, who was the first African American woman to represent Ohio in the United States Congress, died last Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, after suffering a brain hemorrhage. She was 58 years old. Twenty-six youth from Roxbury Presbyterian Church Summer Impact recently set sail from the Bank of America Pavilion with Save the Harbor/Save the Bay, a nonprofit organization that aims restoring and protecting Boston Harbor and Massachusetts Bay. The trip was part of a free summer program offered by Save the Harbor/Save the Bay that gives nearly 5,000 Boston-area youth the opportunity to explore the Harbor Islands while learning about the marine environment and the history of Boston Harbor.
