Palm trees on a beach in Biloxi, Miss., brave Hurricane Gustav as a storm surge floods U.S. Highway 90 on Monday. Gustav made landfall as a Category 2 hurricane 72 miles southwest of New Orleans on Monday morning, slowing to Category 1 by the afternoon. While it is too early to assess the storm’s full damage, President Bush on Tuesday said he was grateful that Gustav was nowhere near as destructive as Hurricane Katrina was in August 2005.
