The 32nd Annual Cambridge River Festival kicked off with a parade from Harvard Square to the Charles River, highlighting a giant sized puppet replica of the famous Cambridge-based storyteller, Brother Blue. The Cambridge Arts Council packed a mile-long stretch along the river on Memorial Drive with multiple stages of live music, dance, theater, arts and crafts and an international food market. Coalitions of the Boston Alliance for Community Health gathered on May 31, 2011 at City Hall to set up 1,200 pairs of shoes in order to demonstrate the 1,200 lives lost daily in the country due to tobacco related illnesses. The youth also asked elected officials to distribute information about the free nicotine patch resource provided by the Boston Public Health Commission. The Massachusetts Prostate Cancer Symposium held their 14th annual Prostate Cancer Symposium at the Boston Newton Marriott May 20, 2011. One educational panel, “Late to Care for Men of Color,” examined the role that some providers play in men being diagnosed late. There is some concern that when men of color come for medical care, certain screening tests are not discussed or performed. This workshop examined the role of health care providers, community health workers, health educators and others in making sure that men get the most appropriate care based on their circumstances.
