AKA and YPN-ULEM are hosting a financial literacy workshop entitled, Securing Your Future:Financial Literacy and Empowerment, Start Now. The target population for this program includes middle school students in grades 6-8 and high school seniors. Unfortunately, in many inner city communities our youth do not learn about the nuances of financial responsibility until after they have made costly financial mistakes relating to credit. As a result, AKA and YPN-ULEM are partnering to address this need in our community through this program. Our program will include discussions on budgeting, entrepreneurship, banking, saving, credit and loans. The event will include two 45 minute sessions for middle school students and three 45 minute sessions for high school seniors. The presentations will be given by individuals from Barnum Financial Group, Eastern Bank and Smith Barney. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided for participants. The event will be on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at the Perkins Community Center, located at 155 Talbot Avenue in Dorchester from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Electronic copies of the registration form can be accessed at www.akaboston.org or www.ypnboston.org .
