Letters to the Editor

What did we expect?

President Barack Obama has made good on all of his promises. The problem is a frustrated electorate who projected all of their hopes and dreams on to his candidacy.

He can only be faulted with communicating in high-flown, non-specific concepts.

Alimony for life?

In regard to “Mass. considers ending lifetime alimony” (Bay State Banner, May 19, 2011), my husband is also paying lifetime alimony for a marriage he was thrown out of. He didn’t want the divorce.  She did. She got the house, all its contents, child support and alimony for life.

We had to pay the child’s medical insurance, vacations, clothing and every other thing that came along. We’ve had to take out loans to make the alimony payments when the economy bottomed out.

In the meantime the ex-wife bought two additional houses, several cars and is set to inherit a business. I actually quit working at a very lucrative job that I spent six years of school to attain because the judge wanted to include my income to increase her alimony.

I was never married to her and don’t owe her anything. I literally lost my career over this ridiculous situation. The Legislature in Massachusetts needs to wake up. As the law stands now, neither of us can ever retire. Where is the equality in this?
