No-warrant searches a bad idea from the start

The Boston Police Department will be starting a new program in four so-called "high-crime" neighborhoods ("ACLU skeptical of police warrantless search plan," Nov. 22, 2007). They will be going door to door asking parents' permission to make no-warrant searches of their children's rooms to look for guns. There are so many reasons why this is a bad idea.
