A standard of correction

Progressive penal systems call themselves euphemistically "Department of Corrections." However, the rate of recidivism indicates that few inmates are really corrected. According to a 2006 study by the Commission on Safety and Abuse in America's Prisons, 67 percent of former prisoners are arrested again within three years of their release and 52 percent are sent back to prison. A 'race to the bottom' for airlines

Considering how much I travel, I'm actually surprised how much I hate and resent the thought of flying. It's not the fear of heights, or the turbulence, or even the perpetual fear of a terrorist attack. No, the blame lies squarely on the shoulders of airline carriers. Also, the utter agony and different standards for every airport of what can and can't pass through security screening is baffling. More »

I want to congratulate Judge Roderick Ireland on his confirmation as the first African American to serve as Chief Justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. I know this was long overdue, but I love the fact that our first African American governor made this happen. More »
