Far from the typical sit-down fundraiser, ¡Cultura Viva!, the annual gala of Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción (IBA), took guests on a Latin American fiesta of music, dance, art and cuisine. The event featured La Timbistica, a band composed of Berklee College of Music’s top young musicians, IBA’s own Las Pleneras de la Villa, a folkloric elders dance troupe, attendees and youth from the IBA-Cacique Youth Learning Center. Judith Lammy, a committed advocate for Caribbean culture, died on April 13. She was 53 years old. The mother of two daughters, Lilian Ann and Arlene, with her husband Ronald H. Lammy, “Ann,” as she was called, was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. She was an active supporter of the North Shore Caribbean Association and helped organize the first concert of calypso and steelband music at Boston’s Symphony Hall.
