Bobby McFerrin was at Berklee College of Music last week as the first visiting professor for Africana Studies, inspiring students from The Artistry, Creativity, and Inquiry Seminar to think critically about life, art and social responsibility. The 10-time Grammy Award-winner has been treating students to stories about his artistic and musical journeys, and generously sharing the stage. Feeling inspired at one point to vocalize the blues, McFerrin found student Dave MacKay more than willing to play piano for him as he improvised and scatted over MacKay’s riffs.
