The 32nd Annual Cambridge River Festival kicked off with a parade from Harvard Square to the Charles River, highlighting a giant sized puppet replica of the famous Cambridge-based storyteller, Brother Blue. Coalitions of the Boston Alliance for Community Health gathered on May 31, 2011 at City Hall to set up 1,200 pairs of shoes in order to demonstrate the 1,200 lives lost daily in the country due to tobacco related illnesses. The youth also asked elected officials to distribute information about the free nicotine patch resource provided by the Boston Public Health Commission.
