While many stayed indoors watching weather reports of Hurricane Irene, this woman, along with dozens of other onlookers, chose to brave the elements of the storm last weekend at Pleasure Bay in South Boston. The hurricane damaged homes, washed out roads, swept away bridges and caused widespread flooding throughout Massachusetts. Carnival 2011 Despite last weekend’s tropical storm, thousands of people still turned out for this year’s Caribbean Carnival. The Carnival includes a competition of masquerade bands, which is judge based on costumes, dancing and presentation. Spectators lined the parade route, which runs from Martin Luther King Boulevard to Franklin Park, and watched as people dressed in festive costumes marched down the street.
