Lindsay of Sharon, Mass., was honored as a 2008 YMCA Black Achiever
during the Boston chapter of the association’s 33rd Annual Black
Achievers Recognition Gala last month.
A national
program of the YMCA USA now operating in more than 100 local chapters
across the country, the first Black Achievers began in 1971 in Harlem,
N.Y. Four years later, the YMCA of Greater Boston launched its own
program to recognize black employees of local businesses who, in
partnership with their employers, commit time and talents to the
development of young people and have achieved exemplary success in
their professional lives.
Lindsay exemplifies those characteristics. As an administrative manager
at Boston Medical Center (BMC), she manages the hospital’s pharmacy
department and is responsible for the department’s operations,
including recruitment, staff retention and relations, process
improvements and strategic planning, while providing quality
patient-focused pharmacy services.
By accepting the award, Lindsay committed to perform a minimum of 40 hours of community service on behalf of youth.
Boston Medical Center has been a proud sponsor and supporter of the
YMCA’s Black Achievers Program for the past 11 years. To date, 19 BMC
employees have been selected to participate in the program.
“These dedicated professionals have provided educational, career and
leadership advice to young girls and boys within Boston and the
surrounding communities,” said Barbara Catchings, director of human
resources employment and employee relations at BMC. “In keeping with
Boston Medical Center’s mission and commitment to diversity, we also
recognize and applaud employees who strive to enrich the lives of those
in the community we serve.”
