Welfare for all

When the United States economy was more abundant, it was common for many of those who were affluent to denigrate government entitlement programs. Their contempt stemmed from two major sources: a doctrinaire commitment to an unfettered free market, and a profound objection to the expenditure of taxpayer funds for welfare, Medicaid, public housing, food stamps and other programs. While the number of American radio stations is growing, ownership is being concentrated in fewer and fewer hands due to widespread media consolidation. What was your reaction when you heard that the companies receiving bailout money handed their top employees multimillion-dollar bonuses?

I don't spend too much of my energy on those things anymore because the game is being played on all levels and it has been going on for years. The media coverage on issues such as this is just another distraction. My focus is young people and how I can be a better example for them. More »
