A good choice

No decisions by the president are more significant than his appointment of justices to the U.S. Supreme Court. The decisions of this group of nine justices determine whether Congress and the president are exceeding the authority granted to them by the U.S. Constitution. Obama might need to show ID in more places than East Harlem

The only thing wrong with New York Congressman Charles Rangel's quip that President Obama had better bring his ID to East Harlem is that he limited it to East Harlem. Wearing his trademark baseball cap, casual clothes and sneakers, sans White House entourage and limo, an Obama strolling or driving down a dimly lit street could easily be stopped in any number of black neighborhoods. The troubling philosophy behind a young man's murder

The 15-year-old who was shot the weekend of May 8, 2009, was one of the most intelligent, determined, well-mannered young men I have ever encountered. He represented a person who had worked against the probabilities by acquiring a "double promotion," moving up a grade level so that he could graduate from middle school. More »
