Strengthening the middle-class

A bitter battle is being waged in Washington over income tax cuts. Former President George W. Bush cut taxes in 2001 and 2003, but these cuts are due to expire at the end of the year. Then the tax rate would rise to 39.6 percent from 35 percent, resulting in an increase for taxpayers with income greater than about $375,000. More »

It's time to rethink Sarah Palin. From the moment that Republican presidential candidate John McCain plopped her on his ticket, the supreme article of political faith from all pundits, much of the press, most Democrats, and the GOP establishment has been that Sarah Palin is a laughingstock, a sideshow diversion, an ignoramus on the issues, a gossip and celebrity starved media creation, and, of course, a closet race tinged crowd baiter. During this election season, the Massachusetts Municipal Association is calling on all candidates for the Legislature to pledge their support for reform legislation to give cities and towns the ability to control skyrocketing health insurance costs and save local taxpayers $100 million a year, and we encourage all voters and taxpayers to do the same.
