Roving Camera

Do you think it was wise for Boston Police Commissioner
Edward Davis to distribute leaflets revealing
photographs of  suspected gang members?

I think that contaminated the community. I think it was too early to make such a strong stance on an issue of that magnitude, especially in a country where you’re innocent until proven guilty.

It’s a general approach, but it’s got to be person to person contact. “We” must connect with our people (youth) on a first name basis. That’s respect.

As with any leafleting, it’s a good source of information, but it doesn’t do the job. Most people glance at it and throw it away.

I don’t agree with it because of the fact it could be taken as free publicity. On the other hand, I believe they’ll be some accountability because their faces are exposed to their family and loved ones, thus causes them not to turn a blind eye.

I don’t agree with the commissioner’s decision to distribute photos or information of local gang members in the area. That’s only going to cause more problems for the area, the alleged “gang member” and his/her family.

I’m all for community policing and what goes with it if it makes the community safer. But it shouldn’t be confined to one area and it should be consistent (not a fly by night thing) and fair!
