What should be done to revamp the state Parole Board?
|Just as the prisoners are vetted, their [Parole Board members’] credentials should be conducive to the society of today, not the past.
|The Parole Board should be diverse, reflecting the community both professionally and racially.
|If all the local law enforcement agencies were involved as well as the community, we would be able to offer better services.
|First, acknowledge that the Department of Correction plays a crucial part in the suitability of one’s release and don’t allow them to rubberstamp “rehabilitated” without providing adequate programs that truly rebuild lives; second, don’t punish all lifers for the action of one man.
|They should go through intense evaluation to ensure their capacity to diagnose an individual from a social perspective.

|They’re spending more money to incarcerate than for higher education. The prison system should spend more for education so when the applicant for parole appears before the Board, they’ll know better if that person’s prepared for release.
