Northeastern University BALFOUR SCHOLARS Program
• Are entering seventh or eighth grade
• Live in the Northeastern neighborhood
• Attend Boston Public Schools
• Seem genuinely interested in participating in the program.
Applications for new students are available after April 1st each year and must be returned the deadline. All applicants fitting the above criteria and who return their forms on time will be assigned an interview. The application process is NOT first-come, first-served.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology MITES Program
(MITES) Minority Introduction to Engineering and Science is a rigorous six-week residential, academic enrichment summer program for promising high school juniors who are interested in studying careers in science and engineering. This national program stresses the value of pursuing advanced technical degrees while developing the skills necessary to achieve success in science and engineering. The program is 100 percent scholarship-based.

Urban Scholars Program
Urban Scholars is the place for committed students to build the skills, muster the drive and live the experiences that will ensure their success in college. Our mission of providing the life-changing opportunity of a college education remains as strong today as in 1983 when Urban Scholars began.
From an original enrollment of fifteen academically talented Boston public high school students, we have served nearly 1,500 students. Graduates of the program have a college enrollment rate of 98 percent, compared to 57 percent for their peers from non-exam Boston high schools.

Brandeis University
Brandeis University’s Transitional Year Program (TYP) is an integral part of our institution’s founding and enduring commitment to social justice. Established in 1968, TYP is a one-year academic program for students who have developed the skills for college success by practicing leadership in their life experiences. The TYP experience allows these students to learn about new possibilities for their lives. Further, it enables them to apply the focus, energy, perseverance and maturity previously devoted to prevailing in the face of personal challenges to now pursuing academic success.
The intelligent and talented students selected to participate in TYP typically have not had access to advanced placement and honors courses in their previous schooling experiences. For this reason, TYP guarantees small classes, rigorous academics and strong academic support.
Once they enter the program, TYP students become part of the campus community, making many important contributions to campus life. Our collective hope and intent is that all students who complete the TYP will stay at Brandeis to complete their undergraduate careers, and eventually join our community of illustrious alumni.
Students who enter the TYP have a life-changing experience, and have their stories of success added to the TYP’s hundreds of living testimonies of true ambition, resilience, courage and triumph.
