What do you think needs to be done
 to curb youth violence?

We need to save lives by learning where all of these guns are coming from and make gun dealers—some of whom are either corrupt or morbidly negligent or both —accountable for their actions.

There needs to be a meeting of the minds between parents and children.

We need to provide psychological counseling for our youth. We need to teach our youth how to process their pain rather than project it. Trauma begets trauma and violence begets violence.

There needs to be more positive youth activities and more involvement with youth. If there were more outreach workers or neutral people, not cops or anyone like that, to interact with the youth. I think the youth would respond better. They need to be listened to and not [just] heard.

Parents and community need to commit and get involved. Listen to the youth and find out why violence is the answer.

The one thing that needs to be done is focus on the family. The youth that are usually involved with violence are sons of youth parents who haven’t learned the proper skills of parenthood. So, it’s not unusual for this occurrence.  We need to teach young parenting skills.
