What is your reaction to the new Boston firefighters’ contract?

It’s more than fair. For the amount of work they do, they’re getting paid good money, especially with the state of the economy.

I agree with the raise as they went before an arbitrator and he awarded the money. That should have been the end of it. But what’s not negotiable is: if you’re in the business of saving lives you shouldn’t have a problem submitting to drug testing.

When you do the math across the board — when they haven’t had a raise in five years — of course it is. It’s like a cost of living raise and when coupled with the fact that their lives are on the line, it’s fair.

I don’t think they got a good deal. They risk their lives for the state, thus they should be in line with state compensations, e.g. MBTA, State Police, etc.
