Robin HamiltonHi, I’m Robin, and I am a journalist who tries to keep her ear to the ground.  One topic I’ve covered a lot is the job market.

We all know it’s bad...really bad. But that being said, I have had the fortune of meeting some people who had the wind knocked out of them - only to get back up. They got laid off, or left their jobs on their own will - and decided to turn their bad situation into good fortune.

For the next 10 weeks, you will hear from 10 people - in their own words, about how they were kicked down, and got back up. This is how they did it.

Tori Paide

She was working in international development in downtown DC, when stress and anxiety made her redefine how she was running her life. A trip to an acupuncturist changed her outlook - and her career path. She decided to moonlight as a personal chef to make ends meet while taking acupuncture classes full time.

Those skills led her to creating her wellness center, a move Tori calls "a dream come true".

Robin,

I commend you for bringing up this topic.  Too many women fear changing careers.  We worry too much about what people will think of us if we have to down size.  We also worry about being perceived as weak, when we realize that a certain job and its stresses, are not for us.  These things are out of our control and we must take care of ourselves.  What we can control is our happiness and the pace in which we live our lives.  To loosely quote Alice Walker, in search of our mother's garden we will find our own.  We must look within to determine the the path of our inner artist.   By doing so we can indulge ourselves in ventures that receive much praise, and most importantly give us the most joy,  as did Walker's mother in her garden.  I could go on all day!  But I just really wanted to wish Ms Paide continued success in her ventures! I look forward to the next 10 weeks of inspiration.
