The YMCA of Greater Boston today recently announced Kevin Washington as it new president and CEO. Washington will serve as the 12th president of the nearly 159-year-old organization that is now one of the largest service providers in Massachusetts.

“On behalf of the entire General Board of Y Directors, we are pleased and excited to have the opportunity to further our mission and good work by serving with someone of Kevin’s professional caliber and experience,” said John G. Conley, chairman of the YMCA of Greater Boston board.

Washington joins Greater Boston Y after serving YMCAs in Hartford, Conn.; Philadelphia, Pa. and Chicago, Ill. Prior to joining the YMCA of Greater Boston, Washington was president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Hartford.

“I am proud to be invited to serve as the leader of America’s first YMCA,” said Washington. “Together we can make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grown and thrive.”

Washington earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Temple University. He is a member of a number of important national Y initiatives including the National Diversity Initiative, Aquatics Safety Task Force and the national Mentorship Program to support young YMCA leaders.
