Patrick’s election eve push turned out voters

As Election Day approached, Massachusetts’ Democrats came out in full support of Gov. Deval Patrick.

In Roxbury’s Dudley Square, candidates on the ballot and Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino rallied some 300 plus supporters in the cold the night before Election Day, encouraging them to support the democratic candidates, especially Gov. Patrick.

“The Republican party speaks of this ‘wave’ that will push Governor Patrick and his supporters out of office … well there is no wave. Massachusetts needs Deval Patrick!” said Steve Grossman, Democratic Massachusetts State Treasurer-Elect in front of Roxbury’s Citizens Bank.

First lady Diane Patrick supported her husband by recalling his support for the Roxbury community. “This is home for us” she said as she continued to mention that the governor “goes to sleep and wakes up with every single one of you — and your  needs — on his mind … whether it’s education for the needs of our children, or bringing 57 units of elderly housing here.”

The Patrick Campaign successfully enlisted hundreds of supporters. The night before election day, more supporters stepped up to canvass neighborhoods with literature, call supporters and even take them to the polls.

“Hey Hey Ho Ho Patrick-Murray is the way to go!” shouted Patrick Campaign Political Director Tito Jackson to the crowd of supporters Monday night.

Carlos Henriquez,  a state representative candidate, said he saw support for Patrick extremely high in the 7th Suffolk District. “We had a high turnout in the neighborhoods, and similar to the energy we saw in 2006 when Patrick was first elected,” said Henriquez, who defeated Barry Lawton’s write-in campaign.

“We worked hard to ensure democratic victories across the board,” said Henriquez.
