in the Mix
Let’s get ready for some football…
It was a good night indeed at Jerod Mayo’s 3rd annual Mayo Bowl at Kings Dedham. The Pats were coming off a win in their season opener and they were all out in full support of Mayo’s annual fundraiser.
The all-star guests included superstar QB Tom Brady, his lovely wife Gisele Bundchen, and his teammates Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez, Vince Wilfork, Julian Edelman, Logan Mankins, Devin McCourty, Stephen Gostkowski, Zoltan Mesko, Patrick Chung, Brandon Lloyd and former Pats Troy Brown and Kevin Faulk.
Also on hand were Kevin Karlson, Pete McKenzie and Heather Ford from WZLX’s morning show “Karlson and McKenzie.” And my college buddy, Ron Furr was DJ for the night and definitely got the party started with the music. The event raised more than $140,000 for Pitching in for Kids, Inc. It was a night of celebration all around!
Live the Dream!
Action for Boston Community Development, better known as ABCD, hosted its 2nd annual Hoop Dreams fundraiser with Doc Rivers and Bob Ryan at the TD Garden. Corporate teams battled it out on the legendary parquet floor in support of ABCD and its programs.
You can’t ask for a better ambassador than Doc Rivers. He is charismatic, charming and absolutely giving of his time. Doc gave advice to the players, took photos with everyone and autographed jerseys, always with a smile. The event raised $100,000 for the charitable organization. Hoop Dreams lives on!
A couple of friends invited me out to dinner and a poetry slam at the Lizard Lounge. I gave it a go and surprisingly I really enjoyed myself.
First off, it’s a really affordable night out and it has a good vibe to it. I heard some really deep poetry (maybe a bit too abstract for me), but nevertheless, I had a great time and plus it takes guts to go up on stage.
Kudos to all the poets! Keep on keepin’ on! And, of course, a night out wouldn’t be a night out without some noshing at Snappy Sushi in Davis Square and indulging in some shumai and some spicy chicken teriyaki salad.
