(Boston, MA) July 30, 2013 – Watch as Chef Jason Tucker of Red’s Best Seafood and Chef Kirk from Project Bread create the most delicious dishes with their local mystery fish at this chef demonstration at the East Boston Farmer’s Market! This Thursday from 4:30- 6:30 pm, there will be free tastings of these professional chef’s creations available for the first 50 attendees registered on site. The East Boston Farmers Market is located at Lewis Mall, on Sumner Street across from the Maverick T station. This is a family event- complete with kid’s events like “fishing” and painting their seafood catch!

The campaign, Celebrate the Fruits of Our OceanTM, aims to bring awareness to and to promote the benefits, diversity, and seasonality of the local dayboat seafood available to the Boston community. The demonstrations from top local chefs are carried out right at the market and show Bostonians how to cook and prepare fish and produce that are seasonal and available in our area. A Chef Demonstration is a unique cooking event that is intended to increase purchasing and consumption of local dayboat seafood offered at farmer’s markets and other venues in Boston. Both chefs will prepare a dish with the given “mystery fish” provided by Red’s Best Seafood. The chefs will be given a budget to purchase all the ingredients they cook with in front of spectator’s eyes at the market to create their truly local dish.

Allison Smizer, of the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center and Farmer’s Market Manager says that they “are thrilled to be hosting this event. Fresh fish is a staple for many of the diverse communities that make up East Boston, and this day will celebrate the multitude of simple and flavorful ways that we can prepare fresh fish at home.”

Boston Collaborative for Food and Fitness (BCFF) and its partners have launched Celebrate the Fruits of Our OceanTM, a campaign promoting local seafood in the community. The campaign, developed in partnership with Northwest Atlantic Marine Alliance (NAMA), Health Care Without Harm’s Healthy Food in Healthcare Program (HCWH), and with support from Boston Children’s Hospital kicked off the summer season at the Boston Public Market on June 26, 2013 and will continue at five other neighborhood farmers markets and community spaces throughout the summer and fall.
