The BASE: Hub program aims to connect students and colleges with a college fair

Kassmin Williams

Those hoping to attend college and formulate a game plan can do so at The BASE’s college fair Saturday.

The Boston-based youth program is holding the free college fair from 10 a. m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Melnea Cass Recreation Complex, 120 Martin Luther King Blvd., in Roxbury.

To play off of the upcoming Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday on Monday, Jan. 20, the program titled the event “U. Dream” and will feature more than 20 colleges including Benjamin Franklin Institute of technology, UMASS Boston, Fisher College, Curry College and Northeastern University.

During the event, students and family members will hear from keynote speakers and experts who will share college selection tips and information about the college application, financial aid, scholarships and National College Athletic Association regulations.

The 20-plus colleges present will have two-minutes to tell students why they should attend their school and students and families will have the opportunity to interact with colleges in an expo format.

There will also be an opportunity for family members and students to have one-on-one sessions with colleges and community organizations.

A box lunch and bottled water will be served.

To register for U. Dream, email info@TheBase.org.

The BASE is a Boston-based non-profit that uses sports to try to transform the lives of urban youth.
