First Assistant Town Counsel

The Town of Brookline is seeking an attorney to serve as First Assistant Town Counsel. Under the direction and supervision of Town Counsel, the First Assistant will be responsible for advising Town Officials, Boards, Commissions, and Department Heads; drafting and reviewing by-laws, warrant articles, contracts and other legal instruments; and the prosecution and defense of civil litigation in state and federal court and administrative proceedings.

Must be a member of the Massachusetts Bar admitted to practice in the state and federal courts, with a minimum of eight years of experience practicing municipal law. Outstanding analytical, research, and oral and written communication skills are required. Substantial civil litigation experience, including trial and appellate practice, also required; experience in public education, employment, contract, and construction law highly desirable. Starting salary range $99,000 to $105,000. Excellent benefit package, including membership in the state pension system.
