For some voters, a political candidate has to demonstrate good character and a commitment to veracity in order to gain their support. However, with the election of Donald Trump, these values became less important. Adherence to high principles requires respectful discipline now missing in the nation’s Capitol. It appears that the Republican Party has even renounced their commitment to old fashioned patriotism.

Prominent Republicans are reluctant to restrain a defiant presidency. There are few ways for voters to express their disapproval. One tactic is to vote a straight Democratic ticket as a rejection of what the Republican Party has become.
