“Cosmos For Compassion”: 3rd Annual Fundraiser to Support Building Safe Havens for Homeless Women

Begin To Dream Again Presents their 3rd Annual Fundraiser to Support Safe Havens for Homeless Women Keynote Speaker Former Star of HGTV’s “Tough As Nails” Cindy Stumpo – Guest Speaker Boston City Councilor At-Large Annissa Essaibi-George

BROOKLINE, MACindy Stumpo, CEO and Founder of C. Stumpo Development, Annissa Essaibi-George, Boston City Councilor At-Large, and Tanisha Salmon, President and Founder of Begin To Dream Again, present the “Cosmos for Compassion” fundraiser, which supports homeless women, on Thursday, March 28, 2019, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., at 17 Yarmouth Road in Brookline. Attendees will gather for an evening of cosmopolitans, hors’ d’oeuvres, networking and award recognition.

“Though homelessness is not only a women’s issue, there are some issues only homeless women have to navigate, which deserve our attention and action,” Salmon said. “Volunteering at shelters helps me see first-hand that the immediate impacts of domestic violence are a major contributor to unstable housing.”

An estimated 63 percent of sheltered homeless residents are survivors of domestic violence, with 1 in 4 homeless women reporting domestic violence as the main factor in their current state of homelessness, according to the National Coalition for the Homeless. Since its inception in 2016, more than 600 women have been served by Begin To Dream Again which has fulfilled shelters’ needs by helping women become assets to society. The women are engaged in rental readiness workshops, personal development, and empowerment seminars. The organization has also distributed 360 winter coats and 260 personal hygiene kits.

Salmon said she is especially excited about this year’s event during Women’s History Month since there are two prominent women speaking to the audience keynote speaker Stumpo and guest speaker Essaibi-George.

“At the age of 23, I was the only woman in the room taking the general contractor exam,” Stumpo said. “I hope to inspire the homeless women who benefit from the important work done by the Begin To Dream Again organization. Tanisha works tirelessly to help these women. I support her wholeheartedly.”

Sponsors for the event include: Eastern Bank, Luxuria Cleaning, Mila Blooms, National Lumber, Needham Bank and Wells Fargo.
