The Town of Stoughton seeks qualified candidates for the full-time (35 hour) position of Project Engineer.  This is a fully benefited, union position.


Duties and Responsibilities Including but not Limited to: 

The Project Engineer works independently under direct supervision of the Assistant Town Engineer who indicates the general work to be performed.  The employee may exercise judgment and initiative in providing technical support to other departments under the general direction of Assistant Town Engineer. The position will provide professional, technical, and administrative engineering work for various types of engineering and engineering related work; prepares plans, designs, reports, specifications, and inspects town initiated civil engineering projects or projects under construction by private contractors to ensure projects are built to specification; adequately prepares and reviews inspection reports to the satisfaction of the Town Engineer; directly responsible for coordinating and keeping records for the inspection, testing, and approval of work performed by contractors for all permitted projects in the Town of Stoughton; supervises and/or performs location, topographical, and construction surveys; responds to telephone/ in-person inquiries furnishing engineering information and engineering assistance to those inquiring on various projects; attends various types of day or evening meetings as directed by the Town Engineer or Assistant Town Engineer; work is mostly performed inside Town offices but will periodically require work outside at project sites; operates light trucks and automobile; operates all surveying and engineering equipment; operates computer and all standard office equipment.



  • Massachusetts EIT/ FE or a minimum of five years of full time technical, professional and design experience in civil engineering required;
  • Bachelor’s or Associates degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline required;
  • Ability to efficiently utilize Microsoft Excel and Word required;
  • Minimum of 2 years of AutoCAD or similar CAD software experience preferred;
  • Minimum of 2 years of land surveying experience preferred;
  • Minimum of 2 years of construction inspection experience preferred;
  • Certified Soil Evaluator in the state of Massachusetts or ability to obtain with 2 years is preferred;
  • OSHA 10-hour Certification is preferred; OSHA 40 hour hazwoper preferred;
  • Massachusetts Registered Professional Civil Engineer desired;
  • Ability to effectively communicate in writing and verbally with the public is required;


Salary: $41.76 – $45.60/ hr plus full benefits package
