JACKSON, Barbara L. of Milton formerly of Boston passed away unexpectedly March 5, 2018 at the age of 93. Daughter of the late R. Alvin and Marion (Moore) Jackson. Sister of the late Juanita Handy, Robert Alvin “Tut” Jackson, and Richard S. Jackson. She is survived by several nieces, a nephew, cousins, extended family and her dear longtime friend Catherine (French) James. Barbara was born in Boston where she grew up and graduated from Roxbury Memorial High School. She went on to attend and graduate from Boston Teacher College and then received a Masters Degree in education from Boston Teacher College. She taught First and Second Grade for the Boston School Department where she worked for a few years before she later became the Principal of William Monroe Trotter School where she made changes that became the new standard. She was a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, National Association of Negro Business & Professional Women’s Club of Boston, the Mass Teachers Association, and A.A.R.P.. She enjoyed summering on Martha’s Vineyard in Oak Bluffs for many years. She was a member of the Cottagers and the Polar Bears. After her retirement she never stopped teaching. She taught at Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, and taught seniors how to use computers at Milton’s Senior Center. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM in the Cartwright Funeral Home, 419 N. Main St., Randolph MA 02368. During the visiting hours there will be an Omega Omega service at 6:45PM. Saturday morning there will be a Funeral Service in The Church of St. Augustine and St. Martin, 29-33 Lenox St., Roxbury MA at 9:00 AM. Burial will follow in Milton Cemetery, Milton MA. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Church of St. Augustine and St. Martin, in Roxbury, MA.
