A new effort from the Boston Foundation will attempt to close gaps in food access across eastern Massachusetts through $1.5 million in new grant funding.

The filmmakers of the documentary "Forgotten Farms" argue that the new local food movement ignores conventional, rural New England farmers and continues to perpetuate disproportionate food accessibility because the majority of people who can afford organic vegetables and artisanal foods are elite populations.
