Mattapan Square

Two years after the first center-running bus lanes in New England opened on Columbus Avenue, Boston is pursuing another. Depending on feedback from residents, Blue Hill Avenue’s drivers could lose a lane.

America’s biggest bank planted official roots last week in Mattapan Square with the cutting of a Chase-logo ribbon by America’s most powerful banker.

The new Mattapan location — the first bank branch to open in the square in decades — is what the bank calls a Community Branch — one with enhanced services, space for community convenings and plans for partnerships with local nonprofits to help neighborhood residents meet needs ranging from financial literacy and credit repair to jobs and skills training.
