Roxbury International Film Festival

For 27 years, Lisa Simmons has been an integral part of the Roxbury International Film Festival (RoxFilm) as its executive and artistic producer. However, her roots in storytelling began when she was a theater actor, part of a greater legacy from a family deeply involved in cultural expression and the arts since the 1930s.

As we celebrate Black History Month, we honor the rich, diverse and powerful stories that have shaped and continue to shape our culture, history and future. At ROXFILM, we revel in the strength, resilience and creativity of our ROXFILM family and beyond as they continue to amplify voices that have been overlooked or underrepresented.

Every year since its founding in 1999, what’s now known as the Roxbury International Film Festival has brought underrepresented stories to silver screens in Boston.

The Roxbury International Film Festival is back in person for its 24th year bringing independent films by diverse and underrepresented filmmakers to Boston.

The Roxbury International Film Festival (RoxFilm) has evolved in size and scope over the past two decades, but its core mission of amplifying underrepresented voices remains true.
