Boston Lyric Opera presents Dvorak's haunting opera ‘Rusalka,’ brought to life with state-of-the-art lighting and projections to create Rusalka's ethereal world. Rusalka, a water sprite, falls in love with a human prince and strikes an impossible bargain to enter his world. But this is no Disney mermaid. Dark consequences flood Dvorak's moonlit fairy tale, along with music of acute longing, hope and disillusionment. Rusalka's "Song to the Moon" just might break your heart. Let's talk about global Black History. From Rift Valley footprints, to AmaZulu shields, to Egyptian spirituality & science, to Alps-crossing elephants to Ethiopian crosses, to a cutaway slaver deck to Lowell cotton factory ‘bobbins’ to Boston busing escorts and corporate prison company stocks. Why is Boston called Bean town and what does it have to do with YOU? What did the emancipation proclamation & 14th amendment really say about your status as an "american"? And what do these facts have to do with Black Beacon Hill, the route 128 "miracle" and re-districting? Come find out at Dudley Branch Library at 5:30pm Monday September 8th at 5:30pm. The Black Connections mobile black history museum exhibit, is made for families, youth & adults to see, touch & pickup (a collection of carefully designed and arranged artifacts, maps, documents) along with digital images to discuss and ask questions about. Boston Lyric Opera presents Offenbach's fantastical opera about obsessive love. In a haze of pipe tobacco and beer, Hoffmann regales his drinking buddies with tales of romantic woe. He's easily bewitched, Hoffmann is. He falls for an automaton, among other bad choices. Maybe it's the mad inventors or the voice from the dead that make him so crazy. Offenbach's music, on the other hand? Crazy beautiful, a tour-de-force.
